Peppermint plants, have
been used medicinally for thousands of years. They reach a height of two feet or more,
have purple stems and long leaves; and a familiar minty aroma.
Peppermint has been used as
a remedy for indigestion since the days of Egypt. Peppermint is a stimulant and helps food
in the stomach digest faster. It also relaxes the muscles of the digestive system.
How It May Benefit
Do not take pure
peppermint. Give only very dilute preparations to children younger than two years old.
Pregnant women with morning sickness should use a dilute tea rather than a
more potent infusion.
Herbs should only be used under the supervision of an experienced
herbalist or naturopath experienced in herbs.
Peppermint is available as
commercial tea, tinctures, and fresh or dried leaves and flowers.
